Author Randal Gilbert is a native of Tyler and a graduate of Tyler public schools. He holds degrees in history and law from the University of Texas. He is a Tyler attorney long active in local historic preservation efforts, and a member of the Society.

Nearly all of the information contained in this out of print publication is also contained in this issue of the Chronicles of Smith County, Texas, Volume 28 Issue 2.
