History of Butler College

In 1905 East Texas Baptist Association started Texas Baptist Academy as coeducational school for African-Americans. In 1924 the name was changed to Butler College in honor of its president, C. M. Butler. It also became a junior college.  In 1951 Butler became a senior college. In 1972 Butler College closed.
