History of Gaston Schools

In early 1930s, the Gaston Independent School District was formed due to rapid community growth from the East Texas oil booms. Architects Emory White and Howard DeFee designed a two-story building that housed both a high school and an elementary school. Students at Gaston High School earned numerous championships in football, basketball, and track, along with awards in journalism and band. In the 1940s and 1950s, Gaston schools merged with the London School District, leading to the creation of the West Rusk County Independent School District in 1965.
