     The roots of Brookshire Grocery Company stretch back to September 1, 1928, when Wood T. Brookshire, late founder of the company, and a younger brother opened a Brookshire Brothers Self Service Grocery Store on the east side of the downtown Square in Tyler, Texas.
Although it wasn’t realized at the time, it was the first of many stores to be opened in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas by Wood Brookshire and his associates in the years to come.
During the half century that followed, Wood and key employees built a successful business that became known not only for fine grocery products but for outstanding customer service as well.
