East Texas Chest Hospital

September 1, 1977: The name of East Texas Chest Hospital was changed to The University of Texas Health Center at Tyler when it became a component of the University of Texas System.

From a blog done by University of Texas at Tyler Archives and Special Collections, is a nice article about late Billy Houston Williamson, Sr., who represented Smith County in the Texas House of Representatives from 1965-1975. It gives a short history of Camp Fannin’s military hospitals which after the war was chartered as a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients and its history to the University of Texas Health Center at Tyler name change. The blog references were mainly the Billy Williamson Papers at the University Archives and Special Collections.
